Mui Wo circular via Pak Kung Au – Moderate
8th March 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
This Wednesday’s moderate hike sees us back to Lantau and a circular route which will take us out via the Old Village Path from Mui Wo to Nam Shan and then the gradual climb on the Lantau Trail towards Sunset Peak. We will stay on the Lantau trail all the way to Pak Kung Au where we will rest briefly before taking the South Lantau Country Trail as it contours downwards back to Nam Shan. From here, we will follow the road down to Mui Wo for a late lunch at The Kitchen
We will arrive in Mui Wo on the 9:10 ferry from Central at approximately 9:45 where we will assemble the group for the hike at the green mail box at the ferry pier. Those making their own way to Mui Wo should aim to arrive no later than 9:45. Please whatsapp me if you are delayed.
We should arrive back in Mui Wo at around 2:45-3:15. Ferries depart back to Central at 3:30 slow, 4:10 and 4:50 fast .
Speed: 2.5 (reasonable hiking pace, but not racing)
Length: 2.7 (17-19km)
Gradient (Ascent): 2.8 (about 800 meters)
Surface: 2.0 (paved surfaces and well-marked trails)
Contact: Dave (67700283)
All of this route is on paved surface or well-defined dirt trails. We will go at a normal brisk hiking pace (around 12 min/km on the flat) with a few short breaks to enjoy the scenery.
Please bring plenty of water or sports drink – I recommend at least 2.0 litres of fluid. There are no re-supply points on the route after we leave Mui Wo and the only easy exit point to public transportation is at Pak Kung Au, after we have completed the days climbing.
